| The main
eight-point star is called
the Polar Star and the four eight-point small stars represent
the four cardinal points (West, North, East, South), the uppermost
star being white instead of gold as an indication of the importance
of navigational skills. The four stars also represent the
four winds and the four main qualities according to ancient
Stervian tradition (honour, justice, bravery and self-sacrifice).
The official ratio is 1:1,3 (which is quite close to square)
but is not to be found often on flags in use by individuals
and corporations (the ratio is usually closer to 1:1,5).
The official values are (Pantone scale) : Blue 293, Gold 123,
Red 485. Many 'unofficial' flags bear a lighter shade of blue. |
